The
newest collection, Capulet, is an amazing mix of structure and clean
lines, and the most wonderfully manipulated leather I've ever seen!
How do you achieve such different looks and still make it all work?
The "Capulet" collection has a harmonious mix between design
and function. The fundamental structure of each handbag is designed to
be fashionable, yet purposeful. The name allows me to express my
creativity and artistry to involve romance, bold characteristics and
additional qualities to each piece.
The soft "whirlwind' effect featured on many of your bags is
really beautiful. How did that concept originate? Was it
always intended or was it something you "happened upon?"
After several attempts and trial-and-error, I perfected the pleating
on each bag. I wouldn’t say that I am a perfectionist; however, I truly
wanted the final product to emulate my sketches.
When did you realize you not only possessed the passion but the
ability to design handbags?
My passion has always involved bringing any item to life whether it
be a handbag, illustration or jewelry. As for my ability, I
continuously broaden my scope on handbags and how to repurpose them for
style and function. This research will definitely guide me in my next
creation!
I’m sure there is such a sense of accomplishment when you’ve
finished the design of each bag. Are you able to relish that feeling at
all, or is it simply “on to the next?!"
I get incredibly excited the first time I see the final pieces,
indulge in that sensation of accomplishment for approximately a week and
after that, I tune into what’s ahead for the brand.
Do you have a favorite design, either from this collection or
the next?
The "Little Rose", it is the core of the "Capulet" collection:
feminine, powerful and what we like to call an ‘unclassical-classic.'
Off
the bag topic, in most instances there is no better recommendation on a
beauty or make-up product than that of a girlfriend or other woman. Is
there a product/s you can’t live without?
Body lotion with the same scent as my perfume, it makes the skin feel
soft and smell amazing.
Could you tell us a little about your own personal style,
favorite stores, or designers?
Artist-chic! Since I live in Florida, I wear mostly cotton
with a lot of sunscreen. Sun safety is so important! For shopping: Post
Jeans in Lincoln Road
for tank tops and t-shirts, shopbop.com for everything else. Brands &
designers: James Perse, Splendid, Missoni (I am enamored by any family
business), Diane Von Furstenberg (she is so dynamic and an absolute
powerhouse!), Vanessa Bruno.
