Since launching Planet Style in January, what types of clients have you seen?

It's amazing that several months have already passed.  Since launching the company I have worked with a celebrity, socialites, the executive director of a non-profit and several people who are heading back into the work force.  Each client has been different in their style and each has been brilliant to work with.

You offer a plethora of services!  Do you have a favorite?

Truly, I like all of the services that I offer.  If I had to pick one, I would say it is the "style analysis" service.  I love to sit down with a client, look through their closets and really hear about what they wear and why. Without a doubt I like taking my clients out of their comfort zone and helping them understand their bodies. My favorite part of all of these services is seeing a new person emerge from their closet and really love how they look and feel.

It seems like many women suffer from a "fear of fashion."  Any suggestions to remedy that ailment?

My first suggestion would be to not fear it!  Style is what you make of it.  When trying to feel out your style take the time to wander shops, flip through magazines and ask friends for their advice.  Also, have someone take photos of you so that you can see what clothes work and do not work for your body type.  And remember there are people like me who can come and help you!

As a professional stylist you automatically gain women's respect and ears perk up to hear what you have to say in regards to style.  On that note, do you have a favorite spring trend?

I have a few trends that I would consider my favorites for Spring 2009.  First would be bright colors.  I love that even in this downward economic turn, people are keeping their fashions bright.  Clothes and accessories are colorful, cheerful and beautiful in the bright hues that we are seeing. I’m also loving the bondage dresses that were sent down the runway by Narcisco Rodriguez, Celine and Thakoon. They are super sexy and give you an air of mystery.  Finally, I would have to say band jackets.  Pair one of these jackets with jeans and a great clutch and you are ready to paint the town pink.

You are very well traveled.  Tell us what some of the differences are between American women and those in France, Italy, Great Britain, etc.

You are right; I am lucky I get to travel as much as I do.  Each time I am in another country I could spend hours watching how people dress themselves.  Without a doubt there are differences between American women and those who live in other countries.  To be frank, American women don't dress well.  Here it is acceptable to go out in a running suit, ill-fitting jeans or even without a touch of make-up. In places like Italy and France, women look flawless every time they leave the house.  In Europe, dressing yourself is something to enjoy and take pride in.  In Great Britain, women still wear hats and gloves to weddings and events.  I certainly do not want to offend anyone here in the States.  But I do think American women could use a lesson in taking pride in themselves.

Alright, we know we don't intentionally try to put on something that is completely wrong for us but, it happens.  In your opinion, what is the #1 fashion faux pas women make?

Am I allowed to only pick one?  There are a few faux-pas out there that never cease to amaze me.  After much thought, my pick would have to be ill-fitting clothing.  I will never understand why women aren't taught to bring their items to a tailor.  The cost is low and the difference in fit is huge.  Clothes can be any price point, but if they are tailored well they always look like a million bucks.
