Your jewelry is essentially an extension of your artwork.
Tell us about that first piece.
A year and a half ago, on February 13th, 2007 to be exact, I
was working late in my studio when I realized that the next morning was
Valentine's Day and I'd forgotten to get something for my wife. As I
scoured my studio for something to give her I found myself staring at a
3-D collage I'd composed earlier that month. One of the elements of the
piece was a group of red "Love Characters", which consist of letters of
the word LOVE compressed into an intricate and unique pattern. I placed
a silver chain through the "O" of the "Love Character" and fashioned it
into a necklace. My wife loved it. I always believed that art should
not be confined to galleries and museums and creating that necklace
reaffirmed my belief to take my artwork out of the studio and allow it
to be an integral part of people's lives.
My guess is that everyone has a different favorite from your
collection-I love the Love Gold Attached
Necklace.
While I'm sure each design is special to you, is there a favorite?
I have 9 different "Characters" right now but I keep expanding the
line. My current favorite is "EARTH" not just because it's the newest
but because it represents my concern that we keep Earth in mind...
Earth's beauty must be praised, the resources respected, its fragility
must be acknowledged. Don't you agree?
Celebrities seem to be the best form of advertisement and you
have an arsenal of celebs donning your jewelry. What is that like?
It's exciting when I see people (whether they're celebs or not)
wearing my art. Knowing that they "get it", that they support my vision
and that the power and beauty of these words are out in the world is
important to me.
You are involved in Reach Out and Read. Could you share
with us a little about that organization and your involvement?

You can visit the JME Merge site and learn more about this great
organization. But in a nutshell, Reach Out and Read gives books to
children (and parents) at pediatric check-ups from six months to five
years of age. Reach Out and Read cultivates the importance of early
literacy skills so kids are prepared for success at reading.
What's the outlook for
JME Merge? Do you have any new
pieces or words being designed?
New pieces are currently being designed for the fall and can be
viewed on our website once they are released. We are also very excited
about our impending partnerships to expand the "Merge" line. We will be
adding gem stones, new precious metals and new manufacturing techniques
to captivate and address the desires of our customers.
Q&A with JonMarc Edwards from JME Merge
Jewelry
I love finding unique accessories-the kind
that aren't resting sweetly around every other woman's neck.
That's just one of the reasons I was so excited to find out about
JME Merge from artist JonMarc Edwards. His line isn't just
unique, but his inspirational words are so intricately shaped into
amazing pieces, that I'm not sure what you notice first, the
necklace or the word.
Created a little by chance, or maybe by fate, JonMarc Edwards
has fashioned little works of art using our necks and lobes as his
frame.
From "LOVE" to "HOPE" there is a word for all
of us to display, thanks to Edwards' creative mind. Visit his
website to see all of the pieces, where they are also available to
purchase, as well as many locations throughout the U.S.
