First off, congratulations of your debut at NYC Fashion Week! How
thrilling was it for you to see your collection on stage?
I was so excited to get a chance to share my collection with everyone
who attended our Autumn/Winter 09/10 presentation. It was a great
opportunity to see everyone's reaction and receive feedback for the
collection.
And how many pre-show nerves were there?
I would say, I had a healthy balance of nerves. I really just wanted to
make sure the clothes that were featured would be inspiring, and
intellectual.
Do you have a favorite piece in the collection?
I do not, I love each piece equally for different reasons. They are all
my babies!
Did you do anything to celebrate after the show?
I slept-for a really long time!
Share with us how you got your start in the industry...
I started with a degree in Architecture from the University of
California, Berkeley, later went to the Fashion Institute of Design and
Merchandising in San Francisco, after that I moved to NY, and worked in
the garment district for various designers and markets, and after having
my own design consulting firm, I decided to start my own brand.
Your mother no doubt influenced your career in fashion. What does
she say about you now?
She says,
she's extremely happy for me, and excited about what the future holds!
Where do you find your inspiration from piece to piece and collection tocollection?
I have a constant theme using inspirations from the Victorian Period,
however, I also incorporate that into whatever mood, or direction I feel
for the season, whether its volume and proportion, as it was for this
season's, "Flights of Fancy" or color and culture.
Regarding your own personal style, is there a trend or piece you're
excited about this spring/summer?
I'm definitely excited about some of the new proportions of the tulip
shape evolving, and the strong shoulder. I love a sharply defined
shoulder-which doesn't necessarily have to be big-just defined.

fall in love with her 17th Century and Victorian inspired pieces.
Mimi's principals of craftsmanship and exclusivity are apparent in
